Centre for Exercise, Health and Performance
Since its opening in 2000, the Centre for Exercise, Health and Performance
has developed as an invaluable academic resource supporting the teaching
of a variety of programs delivered by the Department of Sport and Recreation
at the Faculty of Leisure and Tourism. The Centre comprises two main
facilities.
The Human Performance Laboratory (HPL)
Fully equipped with the latest apparatus for physiological testing and
analysis the HPL allows students to gain valuable insight into the
fundamentals of human physiological functioning, backing up the theory
delivered through lecture and research programs. The facility is capable
of analysing a variety of human performance parameters including cardiorespiratory
functioning, electro-cardiography, muscular strength, endurance and
power.
The Wellesbourne Exercise Facility
Equipped with the latest cardiovascular, resistance and free-weight machines
and staffed by fully qualified instructors the Exercise Facility is
the focal point of the Centre for Exercise, Health and Performance.
The facility plays an important role in the support of teaching by
affording students the opportunity to discover and apply the principles
of exercise and training. The Wellesbourne Exercise Facility is open
daily for recreational use and is capable of catering for all training
requirements from health to elite performance. 1 in 4 students at the
Wellesbourne Campus use the facility as well as classes offered including
yoga, aerobics and circuit training.
